On Sunday, I had an argument with someone about 'Retaliation'. The person narrated a story on how it would have given her satisfaction to do a come back to someone who hurt her . I tried arguing but I'm not an argumentative person. So, I left it. Here I am today saying that you don't have to retaliate or ' revenge'.... If everyone was retaliating, this world would be worse than it is already. We probably would have died.
An Example: When I was a child, my only brother pricked me with a used 'Hepatitis Injection ' on the 31st of December. I don't know how he got it, it wasn't intentional either. I had to take tetanus injection that night. It wasn't funny. The person who had this retaliation argument with me actually backed me to the pharmacist's house.... Would I have said because he caused me pain, I would prick him back? What if mine escalated and I lost my brother?
I'm human and I understand that it is difficult to let go at times. Sometimes airing your grievances doesn't just feel enough coupled with people that are terribly low on being remorse and apologising but in the long run, you did the right thing. We cannot go about paying evil for evil.
Two wrongs have never made a right, it will never anytime soon. For those who believe in the Bible, a number of passages back up this principle, just take out time and read;- Proverbs 20:22.
In the study of Law, you have to back up your Principle with an Authority. That I have done.
I have addressed this issue morally and scripturally......
My name is Karina Olali, and I pray we don't forget that an eye for eye makes the world blind.
Stay blessed.

As much as I subscribe to the message embedded in this writeup, I believe there are exceptional situations. Yes!! Two wrongs don't make a right. However, it musn't be given the latitude to thrive.
ReplyDeleteI'm I advocating for every wrong to be retaliated? I say a categorical No.
The overriding opinion is that in exceptional cases, retributive justice should take its course; for where there's a right, there's a remedy.
